This here watch, it’s called a Speedmaster, made by some fancy company called Omega. I seen lots of folks talkin’ ’bout it. Says it’s a good one. Some fella named Neil walked on the moon with it on his wrist, or so they say. I don’t know nothing about space, but this watch, it sure does look important.
They say this here Omega Speedmaster Date, it’s a real special thing. You see these little circles on the watch face? They call ’em “subdials”. This Omega watch, it’s got a bunch of ’em. Now, if them little circles ain’t spaced out just right, or they look kinda off, somethin’ ain’t right. Might not be a real one. And this ring ’round the outside, they call it a “tachymeter”. It’s supposed to have these little marks, and they gotta be lined up just so with the marks on the watch face. If they ain’t, you might have a fake one.
If you wanna know when this here Omega Speedmaster was made, well, that’s a tough one. Omega, they keep track of all that, but you gotta have this special number, a “serial number”, they call it. And even then, they might charge you to tell ya. Seems kinda silly to me. They can tell you when it came from their store, though. They got names for them like “Speedmaster Automatic” and “Triple Date” which sounds fancy to me. They even name them like kids, got a “Mark 40” too.
Now, if you want one of these Omega Speedmaster watches, you better be ready to wait. They been makin’ these things since way back in ’57. That’s before I even had my first color television! Lots of folks want ’em, so you gotta get in line, I reckon.
I seen one of these Speedmaster Date watches, it was number 38133001. Had a black band made outta alligator skin. Looked real fancy, but I wouldn’t know what to do with it. Just seems like a lot of fuss for a watch, if you ask me.
Some folks go on and on about these Omega Speedmaster watches. They say it’s “legendary”. I guess if you’re into that space stuff, it’s a big deal. Like I said, that fella, Neil, and another one named Buzz, they wore ’em when they walked on the moon. Big deal back in ’69, I suppose. Now, I ain’t sayin’ it ain’t somethin’, walkin’ on the moon. That’s gotta be a sight.
If you got one of these Omega watches and you ain’t sure if it’s real, you can call up Omega. If it ain’t too old, they can tell you if that serial number is in their books. Or you can call the store where you got it. Ask ’em if they sold a Speedmaster on the day it says on the paper that come with it. But most important thing, you gotta make sure it looks right and feels right, ya know?

Now, how do you even set the time on this thing? This fella I know said if your Omega has a screw down crown, whatever that is, you gotta turn it counterclockwise, like going back in time, and it should pop out. Then you can turn it clockwise to wind it up. Then you set the time. Sounds like a lot of work just to know what time it is.
