Okay, so, I saw this OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch online and just had to have it. It looked so cool with the blue and silver, and I’m a bit of a space nerd, so the whole Snoopy connection to NASA was right up my alley.
First thing I did was hit up all the usual spots – you know, the OMEGA website, the big online watch sellers, even some forums where watch geeks like me hang out. I found out pretty quick that this thing was going to be tough to get. It’s a special edition, and everyone wants one. That’s fine. I wanted to know more about it, so I checked out some reviews from other people.
What people are saying
Most people who managed to snag one of these were over the moon about it. Here’s what I gathered:
- Looks: Everyone loves the look of this watch. The blue ceramic bezel, the silver dial, and the little Snoopy on the subdial are a winning combo.
- Caseback: This is where it gets really special. The caseback has an animation of Snoopy in his little Command Module, flying around the moon. It’s activated by the chronograph, and people can’t get enough of it.
- Movement: It’s got a really nice movement inside, the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. It’s apparently super accurate and resistant to magnetic fields.
- Strap: Comes with a blue nylon fabric strap that matches the bezel. Looks good, feels good, from what I’ve read.
After realizing how hard it is to get it, I went down to the local OMEGA boutique. Just my luck, they didn’t have it. The guy there told me there’s a waitlist, and it’s pretty long. He said I could put my name down, but it might be a while.
So, I put my name down. What else could I do? I wasn’t about to pay some crazy marked-up price online from a reseller. Nope, I decided to play the waiting game.
While I was waiting, I kept researching. I read everything I could find about the watch, watched videos, looked at pictures. I learned all about the history of the Silver Snoopy Award, how OMEGA was involved in the Apollo missions, and why this watch was such a big deal for collectors.
Finally, after months of waiting, I got the call! My watch was in. I rushed down to the boutique so fast, I practically ran. Paid for it, put it on my wrist, and man, it was even better in person than in the pictures. That little Snoopy on the back is just the coolest thing.
It’s been a few weeks now, and I’m still loving it. It’s a beautiful watch, it’s got a great story behind it, and it’s a little piece of space history on my wrist. Totally worth the wait!
