Okay, so I’ve been wanting to remake a classic bag for a while now, and I finally decided to go for it. I chose the Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag – you know, the one that’s super classy and goes with everything?

First, I spent a good chunk of time looking at pictures of the bag online, trying to get a feel for its shape and size. It’s not too big, not too small, but just perfect. Then, I had to figure out what kind of leather to use. I learned that the original is made with Saffiano leather, which is not fake leather but real calfskin leather. It’s treated to give it a cool, cross-hatch pattern, making it tough and water-resistant. Apparently, Prada’s been using this leather since way back in 1913 when they started making handbags!

Getting my hands on some good Saffiano leather was the next challenge. I searched a ton of online stores. I needed to find a supplier who could sell me enough for this project. Finally, I found a place that had exactly what I needed.

Next up, I sketched out the bag’s pattern. I broke it down into smaller pieces and carefully measured everything, using the pictures as my guide. Then I cut out the pattern pieces and carefully traced them onto the leather.

Cutting the leather was a bit nerve-wracking, but I took my time and made sure every cut was precise. Once all the pieces were cut, I started sewing them together. This part took the longest, but it was also the most rewarding. Slowly but surely, the bag began to take shape.

The handles were a bit tricky. I wanted them to be sturdy, so I reinforced them with extra layers of leather. I also added the little metal feet to the bottom of the bag, just like the original.

Finally, after many hours of work, the bag was finished! It looked so similar to the real Small Prada Galleria, and I was really proud of how it turned out. I learned a lot about leatherworking during this project, and now I’ve got a beautiful new bag that I made myself!

This whole project was a real labor of love. From figuring out the materials to painstakingly sewing everything together, it was a journey. I’m so happy that I get to use a bag that I made with my own hands. It is really “Just right.”

  • Sourcing the leather: This took some serious research, but I found a great supplier.
  • Creating the pattern: Lots of measuring and sketching, but it paid off.
  • Cutting and sewing: This was the most time-consuming part, but also the most satisfying.
  • Finishing touches: Adding the handles and metal feet made it feel like a real designer bag.

The result? A stunning remake of a classic Prada bag that I’m proud to carry!
