So, I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and I got this wild idea to try and make my own version of the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. Yeah, I know, it sounds crazy, but I like a good challenge. It’s not gonna be the real deal, just my take on it, you know? First thing I did was look up the real thing online. I mean, if you’re gonna try to remake something, you gotta know what it looks like, right?

I found out the original goes for like, $28,737 or something. Insane, right? But it’s a real beauty, rose gold, manual winding, the whole nine yards. And people say it’s in “very good” condition. For that price, it better be!

Then I started digging into the details. This watch has these shiny rose gold hour markers, and the hands are this dauphine style, which I guess is a fancy way of saying they’re kinda pointy. It’s all very sleek and polished. The case is round, 39mm across and 8.08mm thick, which seems pretty standard for a fancy watch. It’s even got a sapphire crystal case back, so you can see all the inner workings. Oh, and it’s water-resistant up to 30 meters, not that I’d ever take a shower with it. Still pretty cool!

  • First thing I did: Researched the heck out of the original watch.
  • Second step: Started gathering materials. I’m not made of money, so no real rose gold here, but I found some decent substitutes.
  • Next up: I tried to mimic those faceted hour markers. Let me tell you, that was a pain. But I think I got it pretty close.
  • Then: working on those dauphine-style hands. Again, not easy, but it’s all part of the fun, right?
  • After: Made sure the size was right, 39mm by 8.08mm. Got myself a cheap movement and a faux leather strap to complete the look.

Wrapping It All Up

And, you know what? It didn’t turn out half bad! It’s not gonna fool any watch expert, but it’s got that classic look, and it kinda makes me feel like a million bucks, even though it only cost me a fraction of the original’s price. So that’s what I’ve been doing during my free time. And now I got this fancy-looking watch. If you are ever thinking about remaking a watch, just do it. It was a blast!
